The sky’s the limit when it comes to this 1964 Corvette convertible that’s been waiting patiently for an overhaul.
Which direction would you head with this car – wild restomod or more sedate by-the-book?
This vintage C2 Sting Ray was disassembled “many years ago,” according to the eBay listing out of North Augusta, South Carolina, where it’s being offered at auction for the next six days.
Despite its unappealing visual appearance, 14 bids have already been placed, heading to a high so far of $18,100 but still shy of the reserve.
That figure seems like a lot to some of the skeptical readers on Barn Finds, where we spotted this car, but others more optimistic think it could fetch upwards of $75,000 to $100,000 with the right restoration.
The body – once coated in Daytona Blue – sports a coating of primer now, and the left front fender has been damaged in a wreck and will need to be replaced. The seller describes the car as “very solid,” so we’re assuming that means the frame and birdcage are good. The interior, meanwhile, once boasted of beautiful blue seats, but not much is left now, other than the unattached gauge cluster and most of the dash components.
On the bright side, the original numbers-matching 327/300 horsepower V8 engine is included with the purchase, along with the four-speed manual transmission, but they’ll have to be reinstalled under the hood, most likely after being rebuilt.
Photos show all the other parts that are included with the sale, but the left front headlamp assembly, rocker moldings, and grille are all missing.
This one looks like it might not be the best fit for a rookie restorer, but if someone is up for the challenge, the rewards could be great once all the work has been completed. At the same time, the owner’s wallet will be much lighter, however.
