Genesis teases us with another sleek coupe concept

Korean luxury marque has unveiled the latest version of its X Gran Berlinetta concept, paying tribute to its new brand ambassador – racing royalty, Jacky Ickx.

The Belgian motorsport legend won the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race six times, took victory in eight Formula One Grands Prix and was Allan Moffat’s co-driver in 1977 when the Ford Falcon famously finished one-two at the Bathurst 1000.

Mr Ickx recently joined the brand as an ambassador but is also understood to be providing input for the upcoming Genesis Magma sub-brand of performance models, previewed last month.

This version of the concept is called the X Gran Berlinetta Tribute, and it’s largely the same as the previously seen car, though its lurid orange finish has been replaced by Midnight Blue paint with a white stripe – reflecting the colours of Mr Ickx’s helmet – as well as gold wheels.

Genesis claims the concept’s V6 engine can rev to 10,000rpm and – along with its electric motor – produce up to 799kW of power and 1337Nm of torque.

Unfortunately, the brand is no closer to putting the X Gran Berlinetta into production, nor has it made any official comments on its intentions for the X, X Convertible or X Speedium two-door concepts.
