Lexus isn’t afraid to dip its toes in the luxury world outside vehicles, revealing its most powerful model ever – a yacht.
And no, it’s not April 1 anymore – Lexus really does sell yachts, though they are built by Taiwan-based firm Horizon.
The first Lexus ship was revealed in 2018 and named the LY 650 – for Luxury Yacht – though it has now gone one better, unveiling the LY 680 as its new flagship.
Measuring 20.66m long, its flybridge has been extended by 1400mm compared to its predecessor, complete with a lounge sofa and even an optional BBQ.
The brand’s Takumi craftsmanship philosophy from its road cars carries across, albeit on an even more grandiose level – think of it as the Lexus LM of the seven seas.
There’s even a swimming platform at the back to park your jet ski (not made by Lexus) or to take a dip if you can’t find entertainment in one of the three onboard rooms.
Under the b̶o̶n̶n̶e̶t̶ hull there’s a pair of Volvo Penta IPS engines, producing 1006kW and 783kW respectively, or a combined total of 1789kW – supplied by fuel tanks with a 4012 litre capacity.
Unfortunately, like many sought-after Lexus and Toyota models, the brand doesn’t plan to sell the LY range outside of Japan in the immediate future, though it says sales in “additional overseas markets [are] to be considered in the future based on customer demand”.
You’ll need to have some decent money in your pockets to buy the yacht, as the previous LY 650 was listed between US$3.74 million and US$4.85 million (A$5.76m to $7.48m) depending on options.
For now, the Lexus LM500h Ultra Luxury people mover remains the brand’s most expensive model in Australia, thanks to its $220,888 before on-road costs price tag.
