[VIDEO] Update on this Broken Z06 with a Blocked Warranty – Would You Take a $75K Loss or Spend $19K More?

Our friend Clarence Garner of the CGarnerSpeed252 YouTube Channel previously brought us this video featuring what many believe to be the first flipped 2023 Corvette Z06 to be denied a costly warranty repair, and now he has another update on the car.

For a quick backstory, he found this car parked behind the service department of his local Chevrolet dealer. When he asked about it, he learned that the base 1LZ “no-options” Z06 had been flipped with the second owner paying $177,000 for the car. Unfortunately for him, the transmission crapped out (that’s an industry term) and now the car is no longer able to drive. After the owner took it to the dealership, GM denied the warranty work and it has been sitting ever since. The dealer has offered upwards of $102K to buy the car, but the owner has refused the offer. That would be a $75,000 loss so it is hard to say that I blame him for hoping for more.

Now for the update on this Torch Red Z06. Clarence was back again at the dealership over the weekend, and he tells us the owner of the Z06 had also been back trying to renegotiate a higher buy-back. The problem the dealership would have is that even if they did buy it back, the next owner would still be facing a warranty block on the car. Clarence points out the obvious that generally car dealers hardly ever give you what you have into the car when it’s working properly, let alone one that is broken.

Adding more to the story is that the cost to fix the C8Z is a whopping $19,000 to replace the transmission. And about the only good thing in this story, according to Clarence, is that the replacement transmission would have a limited warranty available for this upside-down owner.

Here’s Clarence on the scene with this broken Z06 dream:

So, what would you do if you were in this situation? I’d really like to know if the owner was aware that buying a flipped Z06 within six months would result in a blocked warranty, because then perhaps he might have a legal leg to stand on. You and I might know about the retention policy, but I am surprised that many casual fans in fact do not know anything about it.

I was also thinking that his other choice is to simply park the car until he can find a replacement from a parted out Z06 that had been wrecked. But even then, he has to drop the whole engine and transmission to replace, and that’s going to take someone with the knowledge, skills, training, and tools that you usually get when taking the car for service at the dealer.

I think in the end he has to bite the bullet, replace the transmission, and then he can drive it again…very carefully!
